Popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki, famously known as Samidoh, has officially announced his bid to run for Member of Parliament for the Ol Joro Orok Constituency in Nyandarua County.
In a formal statement released on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the artist declared his intention to transition from highlighting social issues through music to actively participating in legislative decision-making within Parliament.
Shift from Music to Legislative Representation
Declaring Ol Joro Orok as his home, Samidoh emphasized that his entry into elective politics stems from a desire to address local challenges rather than relying on his celebrity status:
“I am humbled to offer my candidature for the position of Member of Parliament for Ol Joro Orok Constituency. I am a son of Ol Joro Orok. This is home. This is where my journey began… I am not offering myself for this position because I am a musician. I am not offering myself because I am famous or because my name is known across the country.”
He added that while his music career provided a platform to reflect the daily struggles of ordinary citizens, direct involvement in policy formulation is necessary to effect meaningful community development:
“For years, through my music, I have spoken about life, leadership, our struggles and our aspirations… But there comes a time when speaking about change is not enough. There comes a time when one must seek the opportunity to participate directly in the institutions where decisions are made, laws are enacted and national resources and policies are shaped.”
Key Legislative Priorities and Agenda
Outline of Samidoh’s core policy objectives for the constituency includes several development pillars:
-
Education Access and Vocational Training: Pledging to support vulnerable families so that no child misses school due to financial constraints, while expanding vocational and technical training opportunities to equip youth with practical skills.
-
Economic and Agricultural Development: Focusing on improving local infrastructure, expanding support networks for local farmers and small businesses, and leveraging his national and international networks to unlock economic opportunities.
-
Youth and Talent Empowerment: Prioritizing talent development programs and creating sustainable economic pathways to enable young residents to build thriving careers.
Closing his announcement, Samidoh called on the residents of Ol Joro Orok to back his parliamentary campaign as he prepares to engage voters across the constituency.
